Title: The Four Shades of Me Size: 91.44 x 91.44 cm Medium: Acrylic on Canvas December 2015 Exhibition Text: My piece was influenced by Pop Artist Andy Warhol. I was inspired by his Untitled from Marilyn Monroe screen print. My piece is about me and how I act different when I’m around certain people, or even alone. |

1.) The first thing I did was choose the size of my frame for my piece, so I decided to do a 3 ft x 3 ft (91.44 x 91.44 cm). I then began creating my canvas (cutting, stapling/nailing, hammering, and more cutting).
2.) After creating my canvas, I started to spread gesso all around it. 3.) The next day, I chose the colors I wanted to use (magenta, baby blue, mint green, and grey) on my piece. Before I could begin painting, I had to separate my canvas by drawing four equal squares. 4.) Then I placed masking tape on the sides so I don't get paint onto the squares around it, and began painting. 5.) I started painting my first square mint green, and repeated the same routine with the other squares but with different colors. 6.) I used my projector to place my face onto my canvas (on the first square) and traced it. 7.) I began to paint after I was done tracing all of my faces onto each square. 8.) Finally, I painted all of my faces and let my canvas dry. |

Meaning Behind My Piece:
The meaning behind my piece is that each of my four faces represent a different side of me. The face on the top-left corner represents me when I'm with my family, I'm more goofy around my siblings which is why I had bright colors. The face on the top-right corner represents me with my friends, I'm more open but still an introvert and quiet which is why I chose cool colors like blue and purple. The face on the bottom-left corner represents me when I'm around adults or when I'm in a formal setting, I'm quiet and reserved. And finally, the face on the bottom-right corner represents me when I'm alone, it has warm and cool colors together since when I'm alone I listen multiple types of books, music, and television shows/movies. I feel like I'm able to express myself better when I'm alone because there is no one there to judge me on my interests.
Reflection:
I didn't have much time to start my self-portrait, but I was able to complete it on the newest due date. I was happy with the way my self-portrait turned out, but if I could change or fix anything about it, it would be the colors of my face that is in the bottom-right corner. I felt like they were too red and it makes me look scary in a way since it sort of looks like I was skinned. Overall, I like my self-portrait and would do everything the same again except I would change the color of my last face and I would've loved to have more time on this project since I procrastinated a lot though it.
